Goals are a beautiful tool for growth, but it’s easy to get trapped in the mindset of “I won’t be happy until I achieve this.” In today’s blog, we’ll be discussing how to create the exact feelings you’re chasing right now. Rather than waiting to live your life.
If you think achieving your goal is going to make you happy and finally solve all your problems… I want you to think again my friend.
Because here’s what happens to so many of us, we get so caught up in achieving the thing that we forget to actually live in the process. We put all our eggs in one basket (the goal) and we tell ourselves we can’t feel good, secure, at peace, or free until we get there.
I’m not against goals. I love a good goal. But I used to treat mine like a saving grace. Like it would be the thing that would save me from all of my problems. Like once I achieved it, everything would be better in my world. And then I would finally feel happy.
We Chase the Achievement, Not the Feeling
Think about how many times you’ve actually achieved something.
Maybe you celebrated it. But then what? You moved straight on to the next thing. You never really sat with it. Never let yourself feel the pride of “I set this goal and I did it.”
We don’t usually pause. We just keep moving the goalpost.
And if you’re a high achiever, this can turn into a trap. You stop actually living because you’re too busy waiting for the goal to hand you the feeling you’ve been chasing all along.
Here’s the Shift: Create the Feeling Now
This is the thing I want to offer you today: You can create the feeling of achieving your goal before you’ve actually attained it. You don’t have to wait until you “get there” to feel joy, freedom, security, peace (whatever it is you think this goal will give you). You get to have it along the way.
And honestly? This isn’t just a nicer way to live.
It’s also the key to actually getting there faster.
Why? Because when you embody the feeling now, you start showing up differently. Your decisions shift. Your energy shifts. There’s more ease and alignment in how you move through the world.
You get to feel it now, rather than waiting for something that isn’t necessarily guaranteed. Because what if you don’t get it? What if it never comes to fruition? What if the universe decides that this is not your path? Are you really going to put your whole capacity for (insert feeling here) on hold for something that isn’t guaranteed?
My Own Story: Healing My Feminine Energy
When I started on feminine energy journey, one of the things that I really wanted was peace and trust. I was so in my head and it was so hard for me to just shut my mind off. I was constantly worrying and creating Plan A, Plan B and Plan C. When I was resting, I was thinking about all of the things that I “should” be doing instead.
For a long time, I lived like I couldn’t have peace or trust until I fully healed. But somewhere along the way, I realized: I don’t have to wait until I’ve fully healed to create trust in my life right now.
So when something came up and my brain went into “oh no, what’s going to happen” mode, I’d pause. I’d think about trust. I had to become my own support system to help me whenever I felt dysregulated. If I was really unable to shake the panic feeling, then I had to allow the feelings to flow through me. Once they did, I would be able to tap back into the feeling of trust.
It took me about four years to get to a place where this became my new default. And honestly? I’m still working on it. I probably always will. But its so much easier for me to find the balance now.
Can you imagine if I had waited those four years to feel any trust/peace at all? I would’ve missed years of my life waiting on a finish line that kept moving. Because I was certain that it would only take me 1 year to heal my feminine energy…boy was I wrong.
And this is just an example of how I applied this to my life.
Another Example
Say your goal is to save $10,000 for an emergency fund. The feeling you’re really after? Security.
So ask yourself: how can I create security in my life right now, before I have the $10k?
- Maybe it’s not freaking out every time you spend money
- Maybe it’s trusting that you can rebuild your savings if you dip into them
- Maybe it’s shifting how you talk to yourself about money altogether
Whatever you focus on grows. So if you’re operating from a lack mindset, life will keep handing you evidence that things are scarce. You have to willing to change the lens that you view life through.
Because the feeling you are wanting to create and your mindset are connected.
4 Things That Help You Actually Do This
1. Focus on the feeling
Get clear on what feeling you actually want this goal to give you. Then find small ways to create that feeling today. Keep it small. You can add over time.
2. Be willing to unlearn
You’ve probably held certain beliefs and patterns for a long time. Maybe “money is scarce” or “I’m not allowed to rest until I’ve earned it.” Expect resistance here. Your mind will want to default back to what’s familiar. Because its all its ever known. You’re building a new neural pathway and that takes repetition.
3. Regulate your nervous system
When you are changing your way of being, you are disrupting your internal homeostasis. This can be a lot for your nervous system. Especially if you have a lot of stressors going on in your life. Ask yourself: what do I actually need right now to get back on track? Maybe its going on a walk, maybe its meditating, maybe its dancing to help move the energy through you body. Whatever it is, don’t skip it. Your body needs it.
4. Give yourself grace
We often think that we are going to be motivated and stay that way until we reach our goal. The truth is, life happens. You are not always going to be able to show up perfectly. Beating yourself up when you fall off track only makes it harder to stick with. Be kind to yourself. You can always start again tomorrow.
Why This Actually Matters Long-Term
When you focus on creating the feeling during the process, not just waiting for it at the end, you get to actually celebrate and sit in the moment once you do achieve your goal.
And even better? You won’t revert back to your old self once you get there. So many of us hit the goal and then slide right back into old patterns because we never did the inner work of shifting our identity.
But when you’ve built this new way of being along the way. You get to keep it.
And it won’t matter if you actually achieve your goal (although I hope you get to). Because you’ve gotten what you were really after. The feeling that attaining the goal will give you.
If you resonate with this idea of creating the feeling of attaining your goals before you’ve actually achieved them. And are ready to tap into alignment, but you know you have some blocks that you need to work through. I would love to help you!
